When a new citrus variety like Australian finger limes are budded on untrialed rootstocks, they should be tested for compatability, which can take between 5 to 10 years.
The fruit varieties marketed under
OZLIME BRAND have been fully tested for consistency
and uniform characteristics over many plant generations.
Our research indicates that while
the rootstock Trifoliata is compatible, it is
not always suited to the soil type of the intended
growing region. OZLIME BRAND finger limes are
propagated on Trifoliata where appropriate, but
also on Troyer Citrange, which produces faster
growing trees and quality crops in many areas.
All finger lime fruit sold under the Ozlime Brand
use rootstocks that have been grown from certified
seed from Auscitrus.
The following OZLIME BRAND varieties
have been compatability tested and released for
commercial and home garden use.
ALSTONVILLE (green seedless)
Flowering: July to August
Harvesting: December to March
Tree size & characteristics: This is a large, tall growing broad tree with moderately dense foliage. A highly productive bearer of excellent fruit.
Fruit size: Length: 7-12cm
Diameter: 2-2.3cm
Weight: 20-30 grams
Fruit colour: Mostly brown with green tinges on smooth skin. Generally seedless but odd seeds do occur. Juice vesicles are 3mm in size and light green in colour.
Fruit flavour: A crisp palatable flavour, very refreshing!
JUDY'S EVERBEARING (light green to pink)
Flowering: Mainly August with some flowering all year round.
Harvesting: Most productive between Summer and Autumn with a light crop all year.
Tree size & characteristics: This is a medium to large growing broad tree with dense foliage. It produces heavy crops of high quality fruit.
Fruit size: Length: 6-9cm
Diameter: 2-3cm
Weight:20-35 grams
Fruit colour: Colours vary between khaki green, dark brown and maroon with firm smooth skin. Juice vesicles are a very large 3-6mm and clear light green to pink in colour with minimal seeds.
Fruit flavour: Very aromatic with a stimulating lemon lime flavour..
